About Us

The Quays Nursery is part of our group of six nurseries, all sharing the same vision, educational ethos and approach to working with children and families.

Our strongest belief is that we best meet the needs of parents, children and our team by listening to what they have to say about nursery. You will have many opportunities to tell us what you think and where we can improve right from the start. From the settling in process all the way through nursery to the day your child leaves us, happy, confident, and extremely well prepared to start school.

We listen to our team regularly too through staff forums, team building events, appraisals, awards and family events as well as having a culture of open dialogue and discussion. We know this promotes a positive attitude to work and ensures everyone shares our vision and values and helps each other to do the very best they can for all of our children and families.

A sound understanding of what young children need to do well in their early years and beyond underpins every decision we make about running the nursery, from appointing senior managers and teachers to deciding which resources to buy or how to best share information about children’s development and well-being.

Julie Lightley, Owner/Director

Early Years Teacher, BA (Hons) Early Years Studies, MA Education (Early Years)

My role is very much about facilitating our teams to deliver the best in early years care and education. Working closely with Emma Jones, we are constantly on-hand to support Alison and her team. Being in regular contact and visiting often means I know the many fantastic opportunities provided at nursery for children and the close relationships our staff have developed with our families at The Quays.

Emma Jones, Operations Director

Early Years Teacher, Post Gradute Certificate of Education, MA Education (Early Years)

Working closely with Julie, we ensure that Nicola has everything she needs to deliver first class childcare in a beautiful learning environment with an outstanding team of practitioners. My teaching and leadership experience means I can provide mentoring and guidance to support Alison to continue to meet all the requirements of her role.

Claire Oxley, Nursery Manager

BA (Hons) Professional Development in Early Years

I have been part of the family run Village Nursery Group since 2006 and most recently as the newly appointed Nursery Manager here at The Quays and I thoroughly love the diverse experiences my role provides me with.
No two days are ever the same and that is because of the wonderful unpredictability of our children and the fantastically creative team that support me here. I am beyond proud of this team who strive to ensure the best outcomes for our children through their hard work, determination and dedication.
Building outstanding partnerships with children and families is another passion of ours. From the first seeds of a family coming to look around the nursery, to the fully-grown, ready for school four year olds that leave our care, we ensure our families are involved in nursery every step of the way.
High quality teaching and learning with children is hugely important to me but having now completed my BA Hons in Early Years studies, I am fully involved in mentoring and coaching my team to fully develop them to be outstanding early years professionals.

Alison O’Connor Limb, Assistant Manager

BA (Hons) in Primary Education with QTS and Early Years Teacher

I have worked within the early years sector since graduating from University and I have worked at The Quays since 2016. I started out as the Early Years Teacher and have since progressed to Assistant Manager.
Having a specialism in early years education, I have a deep-rooted understanding of what children aged upto to five need to thrive. My ultimate goal is to ensure that every child starts the next chapter in education at school with a healthy and curious attitide to learning. We build the all-important foundations for learning starting in the baby room and is nurtured right up to pre-school.
I work closely with Claire to develop our staff and build fantastic partnerships with parents. We are a community nursery and with this brings a huge amount of community and family spirit and this is one of the many reasons I enjoy working here so much.

Cheryl, Quality & Relationship Manager

Level 4 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development. Working towards Level 5

As Quality and Relationship Manager at the Quays I work very closely with Claire. We share the same vision to ensure the children and families are the centre of everything that we do. I also support our staff team on a day to day basis.

I have worked at the Quays since 1998 and am very proud to be a part of such an amazing team who are so passionate about Early Years. I love seeing this in their day to day practice.

I have a hands on approach working closely with children and families. I thoroughly enjoy this part of my role, from meeting new families and making those strong links to making myself available to families whenever necessary.

Alana Wilding, Early Years Teacher

BA (Hons) in Early Years Practice and Early Years Teacher Status

I began working at The Quays Nursery in 2016 with our two-year olds, eventually progressing to Senior Practitioner in Pre-school. My passion lies with building strong parent partnerships that support children to reach their full potential. I make sure I spend a lot of time focussing on children’s wellbeing and believe that a ‘happy child is happy to learn’.
I endeavour to make sure children laugh every day and make their learning as fun as possible. I am continuing to further develop the high-quality teaching and learning at the Quays, specifically focussing on children’s mindfulness, emotional health and self-expression.

Emma Edwards, Baby Room Supervisor

Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education

I have worked in nurseries and mainly with babies for the previous 9 years. I have loved getting to know all the babies and families at the Quays and settling in my key children. I am an advocate for children to build strong relationships at nursery with adults who meet their physical and emotional needs consistently, always having time for a cuddle and quality 1:1 time.
I support babies in their developing communication and understanding by using Makaton (www.makaton.org) and we build this into the babies’ daily routine at nursery. I believe in babies learning through play especially lots of messy and sensory play.

Nicola Conlon, Toddler Room 1 Supervisor & 3rd in Charge

Level 3 Child Care and Education

I have worked at The Quays for 20 years. Working in this nursery for such a long time and seeing the positive impact of what I do daily with children motivates me to become the best early years professional I can be.
I love being part of this team as I see it continually going from strength to strength. I have seen the wonderful effort and emphasis placed on staff development and training and this has further enhanced my working knowledge and my passion for what I do.

Natalie Barton, Toddler Room 2 Supervisor & 3rd in Charge

BA (Hons) Drama and Education and Early Years Teacher Status

I have worked for the Village Nursery Group since 2008 gaining a broad range of experience in different roles. I have worked as a supervisor across most ages and being a qualified Early Years Teacher enables me to look at both theory and practice to support my team to ensure teaching and learning is delivered at the highest level.
Before working in childcare, I gained a degree in Drama and Education Studies which really comes in handy when playing with energetic toddlers! I love creating strong and secure bonds with children and families to enable us to work together so that children make outstanding progress with us.

Rosie Weir, Pre-school Joint Room Supervisor

Level 4 Early Years Professional Practice and Leadership

I have worked in early years for 11 years. My love of childcare began after a sixth form trip to India at age 18 to work with orphaned children when I returned with a passion and belief that everyone has the right to a good education and learning.
I work with my team to provide a calm, fun and home away from home experience and environment for the children and I thrive on having secure and positive relationships with children and parents.

Elaine Harris, Nursery Chef

City and Guilds in Bakery and Food Technology

One of the most enjoyable parts of my job is helping to encourage little people to be healthy with the varied and nutritionally balanced menus we provide here at The Quays. My background is in baking but I have also professionally run a kitchen for 8 years which won many local food awards.
I feel very lucky to work in a family environment where I can get to know the wonderful children and their families that attend here. No day is ever the same with and I love the challenge this provides.

Katie Bryers, Nursery Administrator

NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration

I have worked for The Quays Day Nursery for 4 years and love coming to work with the team, families and children here on a daily basis. Having worked in admin for over 12 years and gaining experience in different sectors, every day is still a learning curve in my career within the group.
I love to help our families at the Quays with any admin or invoicing support as well as supporting the team to do what they do brilliantly which is to support, play with and teach the children here. Being able to work in a child focussed environment brings nothing but fun and joy to my role. Both of my children have attended The Quays and I have nothing but praise in how they have learned and developed and in their love for this nursery.
